Listed here are suggested databases that can be useful for research in the social sciences.
ISI Web of Science, a database accessible through the Web of Knowledge, indexes scholarly literature in the sciences, health sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities. Cited Reference searching allows researchers to identify who cited older works, thus locating newer works on related topics.
JSTOR
Provides full-text access to the archives of core scholarly journals in the humanities and social sciences. Dates of coverage vary by journal title.
American Factfinder
Best source for population, housing, economic and geographic data. From the U.S. Census Bureau. The “Basic Facts” section of the web site provides access to popular tables and maps which then provide the “most frequently requested information from the 1990 Census and Census 2000.” Use the “Data Sets” section for detailed information for specific geographic areas.
